Define the Primary Key

The Primary Key is the Attribute (or set of Attributes whose values are concatenated) that uniquely defines a row in a Custom Object. The use of a Primary Key in a Custom Object is required.

Note: Once you deploy a Custom Object, you can no longer change its Primary Key.

To define the Primary Key for a Custom Object:

  1. Select Program from the top navigation bar, then select Custom Objects from the side navigation menu. The Custom Objects screen is displayed.

  2. Search for and select the desired Custom Object (see Search for a Custom Object for more information on the available search options). The Custom Object Details screen is displayed, with the Definition tab selected.

  3. In the Key and Primary Attributes section, beneath Key, select either of the following options:

    • Simple: From the drop-down menu, select an Attribute to be the Primary Key.

    • Concatenated: Click into the Select Attribute field, and select an Attribute. Repeat this step as needed. The platform builds the Primary Key by concatenating the values in all selected Attributes, in the order selected.

Note: You can't select an Array-type Attribute to be the Primary Key. You also can't select an Attribute that's a Primary Attribute.
